Engineering and Quality Assurance

Padgett Swann Machinery has provided the marine and industrial community with the highest level of Engineering and Quality Assurance for more than seventy years. We meet and exceed our customers’ expectations whether work is performed in-house or on-site.
Each member of our QA team has undergone extensive training in the latest nondestructive testing and is thoroughly knowledgeable in dimensional inspection techniques of fabricated and machined products.
Only personnel holding a current Level II certification in the applicable NDT method may perform nondestructive inspection. Gage blue fit readings are evaluated by QA personnel trained and experienced in the evaluation of blue fit transfer.

Padgett Swann Machinery utilizes the latest in solid modeling and CAD/CAM software. This software is used in conjunction with our FARO metrology equipment which is used for inspection and for reverse engineering when OEM data is unavailable.

The Padgett Swann Quality Manual, Machine shop practices and general provisions are written in compliance with ASQ 9001-2015.

Engineering and Quality Assurance

Specific work instructions are created for each order defining production steps, key inspections and tests as well as customer and/or agency hold points are defined to ensure strict compliance to contractual requirements. QA hold points are listed on the specific QA verification sheet which requires each hold point be verified and approved prior to moving to the next operation. All applicable drawings are approved prior to issue along with the job traveler which includes the job router outlining manufacturing steps and QA hold points. All hold points are signed by the applicable QA personnel performing the inspection with an indication of status, approved, rework or hold.

Any nonconforming item is referred to management to document a nonconformance report (NCR) and facilitate resolution of the discrepancy. The management review will determine if the material can be brought to within specification via approved rework methods and whether a root cause analysis and corrective action/continuous improvement plan is appropriate and will completed and implemented.
When an item cannot be brought into specification Padgett Swann will either replace the item or request a departure from specification from the contracting officer.
