PADGETT-SWANN MACHINERY Where Quality is Tradition since
1946
For the last fifty years, Padgett-Swann
Machinery has proudly served the marine, dredging,
citrus, mining and various other heavy industries
throughout the United States. Always a world-class
propeller shop, Padgett-Swann Machinery has grown to
be an industry leader in the areas of fabrication and
machining as well. Quality was the foundation upon
which Joseph Padgett and Major Edmond Swann built the
company and continues to be the catalyst that grows
the business today.
At Padgett-Swann
Machinery, we endeavor to offer the highest quality
and most cost-effective machine shop, propeller shop
and fabrication shop services on the Gulf of Mexico.
Our mission is to continually improve our products and
services, emphasizing quality in every phase of
production – from design through delivery. To reach
our goals we will: • Provide our customers quality
and value in all our products and services; •
Constantly meet our customer’s needs and exceed their
expectations; • Strive for continuous
improvement; • Foster an environment that promotes
teamwork and growth for the company and its
employees.
Padgett-Swann,
Machinery team are marine engineers and mechanical
engineers with decades of experience in the marine,
mining, automotive, aircraft, and regulatory
industries. This team is designed to solve customer’s
problems and deliver only the highest quality of
products and services.
Propellers
Padgett-Swann Machinery offers newly
manufactured propellers and propeller repair.
Highly-skilled and experienced engineers offer
propeller sizing and recommendations for all
applications. The four primary new propeller types
available are:
NEW PROPELLERS
The blade profile features semi airfoil sections,
which allow the vessel to obtain maximum efficiency,
while reducing vibration common in other
workboat-style propellers. Common applications are
shrimp boats, utility boats, large ships, notch tugs,
and tugs requiring shallow draft.
The
most efficient, fixed pitch propeller presently
available. Most applications are for blue or
deepwater ships, notch tugs, utility boats, and
yachts.
The
Kaplan is engineered to run in a nozzle and
provide more pulling power with the same
horsepower than a conventional open-face
propeller. This means increased fuel economy and
maximum efficiency and durability when run in a
Padgett-Swann
nozzle.
PROPELLER MANUFACTURING IN THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS
• Stainless Steel (CF-3) •
Manganèse Bronze (ABS Type 2) • Ni-Al-Br (ABS
Type 4) • Mg-Ni-Al-Br (ABS Type
5)
One
of the most universally used propellers on the
market, this design increases maximum performance
on all types of boats allowing for the
maneuverability for larger, heavier vessels. With
extra heavy duty construction, this propeller offers
dependability, economy, and
efficiency.
PROPELLER REPAIR
Padgett-Swann Machinery’s propeller repair
facility is equipped with large hydraulic pitching
tables and K & R pitchometers for straightening
and pitch alterations of any style or material
propeller to 24’ diameter. These machines are designed
for essential pitch measurements while pressure is
applied and maintained in the press until all
corrections are complete. Certified
welders and an experienced staff of propeller
technicians work 24/7 on-site to complete propeller
repairs. All work is approved and performed in strict
adherence to the methods, rules, and regulations of
all International Association of Classification
Societies [IACS] including, ABS, Det Norske Veritas,
Bureau of Veritas, and Lloyd's. When applicable, ISO
standards are adhered to.

20' Mean
Camber Blades
12'-6" Conventional
Blades
Each year,
Padgett-Swann Machinery repairs numerous CPP blades
and hubs of various types, sizes and materials. We
have dummy hubs for repairing and balancing many sizes
of three-blade and four-blade sets of CPP blades. With
our welding and machining capabilities, we can machine
the palms and bolt holes of any size blade. We can
also weld up the palms and the bolt holes then machine
back to blue print dimensions, provide new tip
castings for tip replacement, furnace or vibratory
stress relief after
repairs.
NOZZLES
MANUFACTURING AND REPAIR
USING A PADGETT-SWANN NOZZLE MEANS
PULLING POWER
Padgett-Swann
Machinery is one of the oldest nozzle manufacturers in
the United States. Nozzles increase forward and astern
pull; protect the propeller from striking objects; and
increase flow conditions into the propeller thus
reducing fluctuation in pressure on the blades results
in a beneficial effect on cavitations, fatigue stress,
vibration and noise. The nozzle offers a means of
increasing the efficiency of heavily loaded propellers
and the nozzle itself produces a positive thrust.
Efficiency is increased by 30 percent, giving more
dragging, towrope and bollard pull, while not reducing
the speed or consuming more fuel than with a
conventional openface propeller. While not sacrificing
thrust, the fuel savings on new construction are
upward of 20 percent.
